Clinical Observation of Organic Phosphate(Parathion) Poisoning and Nursing Care

Abstract
A retrospective review was carried out on 564 patients of organic phosphate poisoning, referred to Chonnam University Hospital during the six years from January, 1970 to December, 1976. The results were as follows.
1. The male patients were 448, and the female 116, with sex ratio of 4.9:1. Group I , the patients poisoned by inhalation(Inhalational Group) were 91, and the considerable number of them(25 patient, 27.4 % ) belonged to the thirties. Group II , the patients poisoned by ingestion (Ingestive Group) were 473, and 116 patients(24. 3%) belonged to the twenties.
2. Group. I showed peak incidence in 1975, i.e., 37 in 91 patients(40. 6). Group If, however, showed no such annual distribution, though 114 patients (24.1 %) were referred in 1975.
3. 26.6%(150 patients) were referred within 1 hour after poisoning. The patients referred with in 2 hours were about 40%.
4. Monthly incidence of poisoning was peak on August, during which 132 patient(23.4%) were referred.
5. Radiologic investigation in the lungs was done in 188 patients, 63 patients of which showed pulmonary congestion and 32 patients pulmonary edema. The lesion was more conspicuous in the hilar region and inner two-thirds of the lung fields.
